Autel Trailer PLC Connector — J560 7-Way Plug Adapter for Direct Trailer ABS Diagnostics
The Autel Trailer PLC Connector (TrailerPLC) is a J560 Power Line Carrier adapter that connects directly to a trailer's 7-way plug for ABS diagnostic communication — without requiring the tractor to be present. Standard diagnostic access to trailer ABS requires the tractor's power and communication lines to pass through to the trailer. The Trailer PLC Connector provides its own power and communication pathway, letting you plug directly into the trailer's 7-way receptacle and communicate with the trailer ABS ECU independently.
This connector is an accessory for the Autel MaxiSYS MS908CV commercial vehicle diagnostic system (sold separately). It enables the MS908CV to read ABS warning lamp messages from the trailer ECU, clear trailer ABS fault codes, and perform trailer ABS diagnostic work without the tractor in the loop.
How It's Used
Most trailer ABS diagnostic scenarios fall into one of two categories: the trailer is connected to a tractor and you're diagnosing through the full combination, or the trailer is dropped in your yard and you need to diagnose it standalone. For the dropped trailer scenario, the standard approach requires either reconnecting the tractor — which may not be available or convenient — or using a Trailer PLC adapter like this one to power up the trailer electrical system and establish diagnostic communication directly.
- Direct Trailer Connection: Connect the Trailer PLC Connector to the trailer's J560 7-way electrical receptacle. No tractor required for ABS communication.
- Between Tractor and Trailer: Alternatively, insert the Trailer PLC Connector between the tractor's 7-way plug and the trailer receptacle — acting as an in-line diagnostic tap while the combination is connected.
- ABS Warning Lamp Messages: Read the ABS warning lamp status and fault messages from the trailer ECU via the power line carrier communication protocol built into the J560 connector standard
- Trailer ECU Access: Detect and communicate with the trailer ABS control module through the PLC protocol — read codes, view system status, and clear faults as supported by the trailer's ABS system
What Is Power Line Carrier (PLC) Communication?
PLC is a communication method used in heavy-duty trailer ABS systems where diagnostic data is transmitted over the same power lines that run ABS power and ground to the trailer. The SAE J2497 standard defines how trailer ABS ECUs broadcast fault data over the power line. The Trailer PLC Connector picks up these J2497 PLC signals from the 7-way connector and translates them for the MS908CV diagnostic tablet. This is how you get trailer ABS diagnostic access without a separate trailer diagnostic cable run alongside the power lines.
